WEST CHESTER, March 16 - State Senator Andrew Dinniman announced on Friday that he will soon introduce the PennSecurity Fuels Initiative Act, a key piece of Gov. Rendell’s Energy Independence Strategy.
The PennSecurity Fuels Initiative will cut pollution by increasing the use of alternative fuels from Pennsylvania’s growing alternative-fuel industry. Specifically, the bill will increase the amount of homegrown biodiesel in diesel fuel and the amount of homegrown ethanol in gasoline.
“The PennSecurity Fuels Initiative will clean Pennsylvania’s air and at the same time, boost Pennsylvania’s economy,” Dinniman said. “The bill I’m sponsoring is about taking the corn grown in our fields and turning it into the fuel we put in our gas tanks. It’s about taking the oil from Pennsylvania soybeans and grease from the food processing industry here and putting it into the diesel fuel used by our trucks and buses.”
With this legislation, “Every time we fill our gas tanks, we will be investing in Pennsylvania instead of sending our money overseas,” Dinniman said.
Dinniman said his goal through this legislation is to replace one billion gallons of petroleum fuel with homegrown biofuels within a decade.
The senator said he plans to introduce his legislation in the coming weeks.
