WEST CHESTER - Senator Dinniman announced that five municipalities in Chester County are slated to receive a total of $349,074 in Recycling Performance Grants.
“These townships have demonstrated a real commitment to recycling and the funds will help maintain and expand those efforts,” Dinniman said. “Recycling programs do not only benefit the environment, they also encourage economic growth and development through job creation and market expansion.”
The grants, which are based on the amount recycled and the municipality’s population for the 2005 calendar year, were awarded as follows:
- Tredyffrin will receive $227,814 for recycling 6,719.7 tons;
- East Pikeland will receive $81,135 for recycling 1,935.2 tons;
- Schuykill will receive $34,919 for recycling 1,262.1 tons;
- Trappe will receive $3,950 for recycling 260.7 tons; and
- West Pikeland will receive $1,256 for recycling 130.8 tons.
The Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Recycling Performance Grant Program provides incentive for communities to increase recycling efforts and promote economic growth. The grants come in addition to funds that the DEP allocates annually to establish and maintain municipal recycling programs.
