WEST CHESTER - State Senator Andy Dinniman recently visited Lydia Hollingsworth Thomas in celebration of her upcoming 106th Birthday.
“It is my pleasure to join Mrs. Thomas in marking 106 great years,” Dinniman said. “She is truly an inspiration and a role model for staying active in your senior years.”
Dinniman will also presented Thomas with a letter from Governor Rendell and a special Senate citation in honor of her birthday Friday, October 26 at 4:45 p.m. at Barclay Friends in West Chester.
She is the oldest living Chester County resident in memory, Dinniman added.
Thomas was born in Maryland on October 30, 1901. At that time, the United States only had 48 states, the industrial revolution was taking full swing and baseball had yet to be organized into a major league.
“In her lifetime, Mrs. Thomas has seen 17 U.S. presidents, two World Wars and countless historical events that shaped the world we know today. She is literally, an eyewitness to American history and I look forward to chatting with her,” Dinniman said.
For most of her life, Thomas worked as a secretary for the Nursery owned by her husband, Raymond. She is also known as a superb cook and has been highly involved with the Needlework Guild for more than 50 years.
Thomas is also close with her family, which includes, two daughters, Anne Moore and Amy Thomas Hoops, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
