WEST CHESTER- (Sept. 5)- State Senator Andy Dinniman asks residents to bring their old cell phones to his district office at 1 North Church Street in West Chester so that they can be donated to the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County.

The emergency cell phone collection drive for the month of August has exceeded expectations with the collection of more than 60 cell phones that will be sent to the domestic violence center.

The phones that are collected are erased, eliminating all personal information of the previous owner before being programmed to dial 911 when activated. Phones are distributed to senior citizens without the means to call for an ambulance in case of emergency as well as victims of domestic violence who are at risk of domestic abuse.

“Cell phone companies offer upgrades and new models all the time, and perfectly functional phones sit in garages and closets waiting for a yard sale. Families literally have boxes of these things and sometimes they just throw them out,” Dinniman said. “Now, used cell phones can find new life and may even save lives through this important program. I urge everyone to support it.”

Senator Dinniman said residents can donate cell phones of any model or size.
