State Senator Andy Dinniman is set to receive the 2009 Leadership and Service Award from the Alumni Society of Penn State University’s College of Education.
“I am honored to be recognized by my alma mater, Penn State’s College of Education,” Dinniman said. “Education is the driving force behind developing fields and new job opportunities. It is absolutely crucial that we prepare our young people today to meet the challenges of tomorrow.”
Dinniman was selected for the award by the Board of Directors of the Alumni Society of Penn State University’s College of Education. He was nominated by longtime friend and colleague, Sister Maria Consuelo Sparks, IHM, a retired professor of history from Immaculata University.
Dinniman, a lifelong educator and former school board member, received his doctorate in education from Penn State in 1978. He currently serves as Minority Chairman of the Senate’s Education Committee and as a member of the Pennsylvania Board of Education and a member of the Education Commission of the States.
“In these uncertain times, we must remember that investing in education is the best path to ensuring a secure and stable economic future,” Dinniman said.
The award will be presented at the College of Education Alumni Society’s Awards Banquet on October 23.
