WEST CHESTER - State Senator Andy Dinniman and Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles officials have agreed to procedural changes that will make it easier for volunteer fire officials to annually register emergency vehicles.

Dinniman recently said that the Bureau of Motor Vehicles has sent letters explaining the changes to all fire companies in Chester and Montgomery counties and throughout the Commonwealth.

“Our volunteer fire chiefs and fire company officers already devote an enormous amount of their time to keeping us safe. They shouldn’t have to spend even more of their time on unnecessary paperwork,” Dinniman said. “My hope is that this change will reduce their paperwork.”

Under the current system, fire companies have to fill out and send in separate registration forms every year to get updated tags for each and every emergency vehicle, which in the case of some fire companies means filling our 10 or more renewal registration forms. Under the new system, fire company officials will be able to renew all vehicles on one form.

The request to amend the vehicle-registration process came from Chester County Fire Marshall Harrison “Digger” Holt, who is also a volunteer for the Paoli Fire Company. Holt recently said, “I appreciate the work of Senator Dinniman and his staff on behalf of our volunteer fire companies and believe this change will certainly reduce redundant paperwork.”
