Dinniman Announces Recycling Grants
Four Municipalities, Chester County to Receive More than $100,000 in Total Funding

WEST CHESTER (December 4) - Senator Andy Dinniman announced today that four municipalities in Chester County and the county Solid Waste Authority are slated to receive a total of $102,359 in Recycling Performance Grants.

“Our residents have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to recycling and these grant funds will help maintain and expand those efforts,” Dinniman said. “Recycling programs do not only cut down on waste and benefit the environment, they also encourage economic growth and development.”

The grants, which are based on the amount recycled and the municipality’s population for the 2007 calendar year, were awarded as follows:

• Willistown Township will receive $45,765 for recycling 1,724.7 tons;
• West Vincent Township will receive $5,295 for recycling 308.5 tons;
• West Goshen Township will receive $46,318 for recycling 2,674.5 tons;
• Spring City Borough will receive $3,126 for recycling 228.9 tons; and
• The Chester County Solid Waste Authority will receive $1,855 for recycling 291.2 tons.

The Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Recycling Performance Grant Program provides incentives for communities to increase recycling efforts and promote economic growth. The grants come in addition to funds that the DEP allocates annually to establish and maintain municipal recycling programs.
