WEST CHESTER (January 6) – State Senator Andy Dinniman was sworn into office Tuesday to serve his first four-year term representing Pennsylvania’s 19th Senatorial District.
Dinniman was originally elected in 2006 in a Special Election.
“I am honored to continue to serve in the state Senate and will continue to work for the people of Chester and Montgomery counties,” Dinniman said. “Guiding Pennsylvania through these difficult economic times is my top priority.”
Dinniman said that the legislature is expected to take on a number of important issues this session, including healthcare reform, legislative redistricting and the possible expiration of electric rate caps. First and foremost, however, will be the economy and Pennsylvania’s growing deficit.
“Like businesses and families across Pennsylvania, we are tightening our belts and cutting expenses, but much more needs to be done,” Dinniman said. “Come budget time, some difficult decisions will need to be made. It might mean putting certain plans on hold and scaling back others. But we will continue to keep our eyes open for any and all ways to save money.”
Governor Rendell is set to unveil his budget proposal on February 3.
Dinniman said he will work throughout the upcoming budget process to control spending and stop any tax increase.
“There is no doubt that times are tough and they may get tougher. This will be a factor in every decision the legislature makes in the coming year,” Dinniman said. “In addition, we need to continue to attract businesses to Pennsylvania – businesses that bring high-paying jobs and spur growth in developing fields, such as the pharmaceutical and bioscience industries.”
