State Senator Andy Dinniman announced that Immaculata University, the West Chester Area School District and the West Chester Borough Police Department will receive state grants to support initiatives aimed at preventing underage and dangerous alcohol use.
“Underage and irresponsible drinking affects all aspects of the community. From those who make the unfortunate and dangerous decision to get behind the wheel while intoxicated, to those who vandalize and damage private property during late-night partying,” Dinniman said. “The funds will help communities use proven methods to prevent underage drinking and support local law enforcement efforts.”
The grants, which come through the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, support local low-enforcement efforts, the development of collegiate environmental management strategies and other prevention programs.
They are as follows:
$11,500 to Immaculata University for the Alcohol Education Assessment Program and the Social Norms Campaign Project;
$11,500 to the West Chester Area School District for the Safe Homes Campaign and the Parents Who Host Lose the Most Campaign; and
$11,500 to the West Chester Borough Police Department for enforcement activities.
“This year the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s Bureau of Alcohol Education received the highest number of applications in the program’s history. So, the fact these programs were selected says a lot about their quality and performance,” Dinniman said. “The bottom line is that these resources can go a long way in cutting underage and excessive drinking and improving the quality of life in towns across Pennsylvania.”
Since 1999, the PLCB’s education program has awarded more than $4 million in grants to more than 240 entities across the Commonwealth.
