WEST CHESTER (November 18) - State Senator Andy Dinniman announced that a municipality, a nonprofit organization and two small businesses in Chester County will receive thousands of dollars in state support for alternative energy projects.
“In challenging economic times, it is crucial that we continue to encourage energy conservation and efficiency, as well as the increased use of renewable resources like solar and geothermal energy,” Dinniman said. “Investing in these kinds of projects today will leave Pennsylvania better prepared for tomorrow.”
The Commonwealth Financing Authority recently approved funding for the projects. They are as follows:
-
Uwchlan Township was awarded an $85,000 grant under the Solar Energy program to construct a 58.2 kW roof-mounted solar photovoltaic system on its municipal building;
-
Camphill Special School, a nonprofit special education school, was awarded a $30,000 Renewable Energy loan for the installation of a geothermal heat pump system in its new residence, education and resource center in East Vincent Township; and
-
Earth Rising Ventures, a developer of environmentally friendly buildings, was awarded a $1,027,818 loan guarantee under the Alternative and Clean Energy program for the construction of Kimberton Village Green, a solar-heated, geothermal-cooled condominium and commercial development in East Pikeland Township.
In addition, Jeff D’Ambrosio Dodge in Downingtown will receive a $1,242 reimbursement grant for the purchase and installation of a nitrogen tire inflation system, under the Nitrogen Tire Inflation System Grant program. Filling automotive tires with nitrogen rather than conventional air helps improve fuel economy, increase safety and can extend tire wear over time.
Funding for all these projects comes through the Alternative Energy Investment Act (Act 1 of 2008), which allocated $650 million in funding to support the research, development and deployment of renewable energy projects and technologies.
