WEST CHESTER (October 7) - State Senator Andy Dinniman will hold Sharing the Harvest, a gathering of people of faith and local nonprofit organizations, on Sunday, October 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Valley Forge Christian College.
Sharing the Harvest is an opportunity for various faith-based organizations, local nonprofit agencies and people of good will to come together to celebrate their accomplishments, assess the needs of today and volunteer to address the challenges of tomorrow.
“While our region continues to be blessed with a great abundance, this year has been an especially trying time for many Chester and Montgomery County residents,” Dinniman said. “Sharing the Harvest is a call to action for all volunteers. It’s about people of all faiths and backgrounds coming together in a uniquely American way to answer the call of those in need.”
The event will feature:
- A number of speakers on local social service and interfaith efforts to feed the hungry;
- Music from local choirs;
- Information and displays from dozens of local nonprofit groups and faith-based organizations; and
- A plethora of volunteer opportunities.
Dinniman said he hopes those who attend Sharing the Harvest will not only leave better informed, but also commit themselves to volunteer and work together in a creative and cooperative environment to help those in need.
“Various nonprofit organizations, religious groups and social service agencies will be at Sharing the Harvest. I encourage everyone to come out and find the volunteer opportunity that is right for you,” Dinniman said. “Please join us for what promises to be an informative, inspirational and memorable afternoon.”
The last Sharing the Harvest event was a resounding success with more than 500 people in attendance and 75 organizations presenting information about their programs. This year’s event will spotlight our region’s many nonprofit food pantries, cupboards and meal services. It offers a great opportunity to network with these organizations and agencies, while bringing the issue of hunger to the forefront our community.
The event is open to the public. Valley Forge Christian College is located at 1401 Charlestown Road, Phoenixville.
