WEST CHESTER (February 25) - State Senator Andy Dinniman will visit Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 845 of Downingtown on Saturday, February 27 to present post officers with a $5,000 check for their support of families of local Army National Guard soldiers serving overseas.
“I want to thank both the members of Bravo Company and VFW Post 845 for their service,” Dinniman said. “It’s a great example of brotherhood and camaraderie that our veterans stepped forward to support the families of those serving overseas. I know the VFW’s efforts are greatly appreciated, and I’m glad I was able to help obtain these funds.”
Members of VFW Post 845 provided support services to the families of Bravo Company 1/111th 28th Infantry Division 56th Stryker Brigade headquartered in West Chester. About 150 members of Bravo Company were deployed in Iraq last year as a Stryker Brigade Combat Team. It was the company’s second deployment, the first being in Kosovo.
The VFW held several functions for the soldiers and their families, including a family picnic before the company’s deployment and a Christmas party and Easter egg hunt for children. In addition, the VFW assisted families in obtaining food, clothing and medical care, as well as home and automobile repairs and maintenance.
Dinniman, who secured funding for the program through his leadership in the Senate, will thank members of the post and join them for a luncheon at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The post is located at 4601 West Lincoln Highway in Downingtown.
