HARRISBURG (February 9) - Senator Dinniman made the following statement following Governor Rendell’s budget address:
“As Democratic Chairman of the Senate Education Committee, it was good to see that the governor will keep his commitment to early childhood and basic education. It was also good to hear the governor reconfirm the progress that Pennsylvania is making in terms of bringing all students up to par in regard to yearly academic progress.
“Also, I was heartened to hear the governor promising that the budget would be completed by the constitutionally set deadline of June 30. It is now up to us in the Legislature to do our part to get this budget approved even before the deadline, as we must not put the public and various social service organizations through the trauma of last year’s budget delay.
“Finally, it was satisfying to hear the governor talk about alternative energy proposals. I agree that his alternative energy proposals will be good for both the environment and for creating new jobs for Pennsylvanians.”
