WEST CHESTER (January 13) - State Senator Andy Dinniman recently announced that he has secured $20,000 in state funding for local libraries and $65,000 in funding for local senior centers and senior care services.

“In these challenging economic times, it is crucial that we continue to support our libraries and senior centers,” Dinniman said. “I know that these funds will go a long way in ensuring that our libraries continue to play a vital role in our communities and that our senior citizens continue to get the support and services they deserve.”

The funds for libraries are as follows:

  • $5,000 for the West Chester Public Library for teen programs and book purchases;
  • $5,000 for the Malvern Public Library for program development;
  • $5,000 for Tredyffrin Township and the Tredyffrin Township libraries for speakers and program supplies; and
  • $5,000 for the Chester Springs Library.
    The funds for senior centers and services are as follows:
  • $25,000 for the West Chester Area Senior Center for wellness programs;
  • $25,000 for the Phoenixville Area Senior Center for programs; and
  • $15,000 for Surrey Services in Berwyn for senior care.

Dinniman has been a consistent supporter of and vocal advocate for both libraries and senior centers. Over the summer, he was instrumental in rushing $25,000 in state funding to the Downingtown Senior Center - funding that allowed the center to keeps its doors open during the state budget impasse.

In addition, last year Dinniman secured $500,000 in state funding for a first-of-its-kind, joint facility that will house both the Downingtown Library and Downingtown Area Senior Center. He also secured $450,000 for the Spring City Library expansion project.
