FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: ADAM CIRUCCI WEST CHESTER (March 10) - State Senator Andy Dinniman reminded residents that plenty of jobs are still available with the U.S. Census Bureau. “While I encourage everyone to participate in the 2010 Census, I also want to remind them that it is a great opportunity for temporary employment and to make some extra money, while performing an important public service,” Dinniman said. “Best of all, census takers get to work right in their own communities.” Every 10 years, the Census Bureau takes a snapshot of America, determining the size of the population, where they live and other demographic information. Questionnaires are sent to every residence in the nation and should appear in mailboxes shortly. The results help determine representation in government, as well as the distribution of billions of dollars in federal funding annually to local programs and services. Conducting the census is a massive undertaking. When questionnaires are not returned hundreds of thousands of census takers are needed nationwide to help locate households and conduct brief personal interviews with residents. Most positions require a valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle, but the use of public transportation may be authorized in certain areas. In addition, bilingual speakers are always in demand and encouraged to apply. The bureau is currently recruiting temporary, part-time census takers in Chester and Montgomery counties. If you are interested in applying, please contact the bureau’s local office in your area:
“These jobs offer good pay, flexible hours and paid training. They are great for anybody, including retirees, students or those who are between jobs,” Dinniman said. “Apply now because positions will begin being filled soon.” In addition, applicants can contact 1-866-861-2010, or visit www.2010.census.gov/2010censusjobs for more information or to take a practice exam.
