Dinniman Announces More than $ 69,000 for the West Chester Area Senior Center
WEST CHESTER (May 28) – State Senator Andy Dinniman today announced that the West Chester Area Senior Center will receive $ 69,658 in state grant funding.
The funding, which comes through the Pennsylvania Department of Aging’s Senior Community Center Grant awards, is part of more than $2 million in total grants awarded to 36 senior centers throughout the Commonweath.
“Senior Centers like the West Chester Area Senior Center provide vital resources and services for older adults that help them stay healthy and independent,” Dinniman said. “They are more than just places to get together for a game of cards. Our senior centers offer nutritious meals, exercise programs, educational opportunities, financial counseling, transportation services and recreational opportunities.
“These grants can go a long way in ensuring that our senior centers continue to meet the needs of a growing senior population,” he added.
The grants, which were part of the 2013-2014 state budget agreement, will be used to advance projects to modernize senior center facilities, encourage technological improvements, expand innovative programming and help meet the needs of their participants.
The West Chester Area Senior Center was selected from more than 155 applications in a very competitive grant cycle.
