You may have attended my first Chester County Coalition for Public Education event in February at Downingtown East High School, where many first learned about the extensive impact of trauma on learning through Dr. Joan Duvall-Flynn's presentation.
Since then, the Coalition's Trauma Committee has committed to raising awareness of this issue and held a free interactive workshop in April on the subject. The committee is pleased to announce that it is holding another workshop event Saturday, October 13th, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Chester County Intermediate Unit. This event is open to the public. The aim is to provide those who work with children and youth, as well as parents and members of the community, the information they need to recognize and understand trauma, its impact on learning and the community, and how we can encourage resiliency and healing to improve educational outcomes.
Act 48 credits will be available for educators at this event, as well as CEU credits for social workers.
I hope that you will save the date and join me at this free event. Look for more information coming soon.
