Senator Dinniman (left) with Medal of Honor recipient retired Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston (center) and Maj. Gen. Wesley E. Craig, the Adjutant General of Pennsylvania (right) in the state Capitol.

I want to invite you to a special event that I am holding with Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi to call for the passage of legislation to protect the integrity of our nation’s highest military honor.

I hope you can join us on Thursday, January 2 at 1:30 p.m. at the Butler-O'Connor-McCormick Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 106 located at 837 Lincoln Avenue in West Goshen in support of Senate Bill 886, legislation to protect the Medal of Honor from those who falsely claim to be its recipients.

Senate Bill 886, of which I am the sponsor and Senator Pileggi is a co-sponsor, calls for Pennsylvania to provide a state public database of Medal of Honor recipients. It also calls for the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to study the feasibility of creating a database of all military awards and decorations of heroism bestowed by our nation’s military.

On Thursday, we will be joined by veterans and their families, including special guests retired U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston, who received the Medal of Honor for his actions in Vietnam in 1968 and Cory Etchberger, son of the late U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Richard L. "Dick" Etchberger, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 2010 for his actions in Vietnam in 1968. We will also be joined local resident Joe Crescenz, brother of the late U.S. Army Corp. Michael Crescenz, the only Philadelphian to receive the honor during the Vietnam War.

It is contemptible to think that con artists would try to pass themselves off as our nation’s heroes, but sadly, it does happen. Please join us on Thursday to thank all our veterans and to help ensure that Pennsylvania properly safeguards the integrity of our nation’s highest military honors.

Thank you and God Bless America.

Sincerely,

Andy Dinniman
