Dear Friends –

Senator Andy DinnimanAs we move into the new legislative session, I want to keep you updated on the latest developments from Harrisburg and my ongoing efforts to keep in touch with you and the issues that matter to you.

New Committee Assignments:

I was reappointed as Minority Chair of the Senate Education Committee for the 2015-2016 legislative session. In addition, I will again serve on the Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Environmental Resources and Energy and State Government committees. Also, for the first time I will serve on the Public Health and Welfare Committee.

Public Education and the Keystone Exams:

We are approaching a watershed moment for public education in Pennsylvania. Over the next two years, the Commonwealth will face a number of important questions regarding the equitable and sustainable funding of education and the new role of standardized testing as graduation requirements. These issues could not be more connected and I plan to introduce legislation to stop the Keystone Exams as high school graduation requirements. In addition, I am working to expand dual enrollment programs between struggling school districts and universities in need of students.

All the while, these challenges must be addressed in the context of the most overriding and pressing concern I hear from you – the need to lower property taxes. I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues and the new administration to ensure that every student has the opportunity to learn at that top of their ability.

January 28th Telephone Town Hall

I am holding a live telephone town hall meeting on Wednesday, January 28 at 7 p.m. It is an open forum for constituents to call in and ask questions on any number of topics related to state and local issues. I encourage you to ensure you are on the list of participants by signing up here and submitting questions ahead of time.
