WEST CHESTER (September 15, 2020) – Three Chester County arts, cultural, and historic organizations will receive nearly $255,000 in total funding to offset lost revenue caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting shutdown order.
“Our arts, cultural, and historical organizations are part of our local heritage and part of who we are as a diverse people,” Dinniman said. “These funds will continue to support their missions in telling the stories of the people of Chester County and expressing our both struggles and triumphs with authenticity for future generations.”
The funds, approved today by the Commonwealth Finance Authority, come through the COVID-19 Cultural and Museum Preservation Grant Program. They are as follows:
- $25,000 for the American Helicopter Museum and Education Center.
- $28,360 for Historic Yellow Springs.
- $201,545 for Peoples Light and Theatre Company.
The Chester County recipients come as part of $20 million awarded to arts, cultural and historic organizations statewide.
The grant program, administrated by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, is funded by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
Applications were open to eligible organizations, including: children’s museums, general museums (with at least two equally significant disciplines), history museums or historical sites, military or maritime museums, natural history museums, accredited zoos, planetariums, science and technology centers, orchestras, art museums, and performing arts organizations.
Grants amounts ranged from $25,000 to $500,000. Funds may be used to offset lost revenue for eligible cultural organizations and museums that were subject to closure by the proclamation of disaster emergency issued by the Governor on March 6, 2020, and any renewal of the state of disaster emergency and that experienced a loss of revenue related to the closure. Funds cannot be used to offset revenue which has already been offset from other sources, including philanthropic and federal, state and local government sources.
