WEST CHESTER (January 16, 2018) – State Senator Andy Dinniman recently recognized the Rev. Andy Salgado and his wife, Melisa Salgado, upon their installation as Pastors of the Saint Matthew Assembly of God Spanish Church in West Chester.

The Salgados were elected to serve as pastors of the church in June 2017 and began their new role in August. They succeeded the Rev. Dr. Cesar Roman and his wife, the Rev. Modesta Roman, who founded Saint Matthews Assembly of God Spanish Church in 1979 and together faithfully served the congregation for nearly 40 years.

Dinniman welcomed the Salgado’s the community and noted that the Saint Matthew Assembly of God Spanish Church has deep roots in the area, as the oldest Spanish Church in Chester County.

“We are home to a significant and growing Latino population here in Chester County and I welcome the Salgados and their contributions to both our local and interfaith communities,” Dinniman said. “I look forward to working with them and Saint Matthews Church to reach out to the entire Chester County community and support our neighbors in need.”

The Salgados previously led The House of Healing Church in Harrisburg where they focused significant efforts on community outreach, including serving meals to the homeless, visiting elderly and ailing residents in nursing homes and senior living communities, and promoting their ministry as a multicultural community resource.

The Rev. Andy Salgado said he plans to bring that same approach to Saint Matthew Assembly of God Spanish Church, with an emphasis on continuing to advance this church as an institution without walls. He said that is one of the reasons he practices bilingual preaching.

“We will continue to reach out to the community. Our message is: ‘We’re here to help,’” he said. “This is a multicultural endeavor.”

Senator Dinniman met with the Salgados and their family to personally congratulate them on their installation, and thank them for their ongoing service to the community.
